The Council of Ministers has approved an annual bill on competition that includes sanctions against illegal activities in the taxi and NCC sector and the portability of black boxes for insurance companies
July 30, 2024
The Council of Ministers has approved the “competition” decree and one of the most significant measures envisaged concerns motorway concessions. For the first time, part of the tolls will be allocated to the State rather than to large concessionaires with the aim of financing public works and at the same time controlling toll costs. Another provision provides that insurance companies can no longer impose clauses that limit the right of insured persons to uninstall monitoring devices, the so-called “black boxes”, without additional costs. An information system will also be established to prevent fraud in insurance contracts.
To combat unauthorized use of non-scheduled public transport, sanctions are being established for those who do not register properly. Municipalities will have access to the registers to verify the accuracy of the information and communicate any suspensions or revocations. Within one year of the law coming into force, a decree will be issued to reorganize the use of public spaces by public establishments – the dehors issue – also ensuring adequate passages for pedestrians and people with disabilities. The emergency provisions related to the pandemic will be extended until December 31, 2025.
Finally, price monitoring will be strengthened, with the Price Surveillance Authority tasked with selecting products to monitor and establishing guidelines for uniform price monitoring.
