On Sunday, FC Bayern will play a friendly against regional league team 1. FC Düren. The match began very unluckily for the record champions: Hiroki Ito had to be substituted after just 20 minutes due to injury, and youngster Adam Aznou came on in his place.
Further information about Ito’s injury is not yet available. FC Bayern is expected to provide an assessment of the Japanese player’s condition soon.
FC Bayern caused a surprise with the transfer of Ito a few weeks ago. The 25-year-old came from VfB Stuttgart for a slim 23.5 million euros via an exit clause. With the Japanese, head coach Vincent Kompany gets a central defender who can also play as a left-back. His flexibility also allows Bayern to play in a back three – as was the case against 1. FC Düren, against whom Ito started as a left central defender in a back three.
Ito played his first minutes in the FC Bayern jersey four days ago in a friendly against FC Rottach-Egern (14:1). The Japanese player was in the record champions’ starting eleven for the first time against 1. FC Düren. This debut could not have been more bitter for Ito. Now we can only hope that the all-round defender has not suffered a serious injury.
