A senior Russian military officer and his wife were injured today in a car bomb explosion in the north of Moscow. The news was confirmed on Telegram by Russian Interior Ministry spokeswoman Irina Volk, who said that “it has been established that on July 24, in one of the parking lots in the north of the capital, an unidentified device installed in a car exploded, injuring two people.”
The victims, as reported by the news Astra on Telegram, it is said that 49-year-old Andrei Torgashov, deputy head of the 89th satellite communications center of the Russian Armed Forces, and his wife, both of whom were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The social media channel also published video footage of the explosion, which shows the soldier getting into his Toyota Land Cruiser with his wife in a parking lot on Sinyavinskaya Street, shortly before the detonation, which apparently occurred on the driver’s side.
According to an initial reconstruction reported by the portal MedusaTorgashov was reportedly seriously injured and lost the use of his legs, while the woman was reportedly injured by shrapnel from the explosion. Some photos published on social media and relaunched by the official Russian news agency Ria Novostishow the victims being loaded into an ambulance, after being rescued by some passers-by.
Another social channel, Mashconsidered close to the Kremlin, posted a video on Telegram of a man apparently placing an object under a car similar to the victims’ in what appears to be the same parking lot as the attack. “The footage shows a saboteur placing an improvised explosive device under the car of a Russian military officer in Moscow,” the channel reported. “His face was captured on video and the secret services are now verifying his identity.
