The Paris Olympics witnessed one of the greatest embarrassments in football history right from the start. More than an hour after the game was supposed to have ended, the players from Argentina and Morocco had to return to the field and saw the referee disallow the Argentines’ draw due to VAR intervention. Even worse, they had to stay on the field for another three minutes to play the game.
The Argentines had managed to equalise with a goal scored after 15 minutes of injury time. In a scramble, with a great save from the goalkeeper included, the team led by Mascherano made it 2-2 after trailing 2-0 to the African team and had to rush to the dressing room immediately after the celebration.
Fans began to invade the pitch and throw objects from the stands. Everyone went to the locker room, the broadcast ended and it seemed like the game was over, after all, the goal had already been scored after 15 minutes of injury time. It seemed like that was the last play.
