“Predators who abused women, scammers who defrauded consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain. Listen to me when I tell you that I know the likes of Donald Trump.” These are the first words of the vice president of the United States, Kamala Harris, as the Democratic candidate in pectore for the presidential elections that will be held on November 5 in the USA.
Less than 36 hours from now renounce Joe Biden’s first speech in the race for re-election to the White House was delivered last night in front of top aides during a visit to his campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, where he directly attacked former President and Republican candidate Trump and reasserted his role as the standard-bearer of the Democratic Party.
In a speech that lasted about 20 minutes, Harris began by praising the achievements of the current US administration as “unparalleled in modern history.” She then thanked the president for his endorsement, who called her before she took the podium. “I’m watching you, girl,” the White House tenant told her. “I love you.”
“I know it’s been a roller coaster and we’re all full of mixed emotions about it,” Kamala Harris began. “I just have to say: I love Joe Biden. I love Joe Biden.”
Then, the former California attorney general went on the offensive against Donald Trump. “Strengthening the middle class will be a central goal of my presidency. We here know that when our middle class is strong, America is strong. And we know that is not the future that Donald Trump is fighting for,” Harris said.
“As many of you know, before I was elected vice president, before I was elected United States senator, I was elected attorney general of California. And before that, I was a prosecutor in a court of law,” she recalled. “In that role, I faced down evildoers of all kinds. Predators who abused women. Con artists who defrauded consumers. Crooks who bent the rules for their own gain. So listen when I say, I know guys like Donald Trump. And in this campaign, I will proudly pit my resume against his.”
“As a young prosecutor, when I was in the Alameda County District Attorney’s office in California, I specialized in sexual assault cases,” Kamala Harris added. “Donald Trump was found liable by a jury for sexual assault.”
It’s not just a personal issue, it’s a political one. “This election will present a clear choice between two visions. Donald Trump wants to take our country back to a time when many of us no longer had freedom and equal rights,” the vice president continued. “I believe in a future that strengthens our democracy, protects reproductive freedom, and ensures every person has the opportunity not just to get by, but to get ahead.”
She already speaks as a candidate because, as she herself revealed, she already has the nomination in her pocket at the next Democratic Convention scheduled for August in Chicago. “When I announced my campaign for president, I said I intended to run and earn this nomination. Tonight, I am proud to have secured the broad support necessary to become our party’s nominee, and as a daughter of California, I am proud that my home state delegation helped get our campaign off the ground. I look forward to formally accepting the nomination,” Kamala Harris announced.
According to the estimates dell’Associated Press and of CnnVice President Kamala Harris has secured the support of enough Democratic delegates to win the party nomination. Several state delegations met last night to pledge their support for Harris, including Texas and her home state of California.
Kamala can thus count on much more than the 1,976 delegates she would need to obtain the nomination in the first ballot, where she does not appear to have any challengers anyway.
The vice president has received endorsements from more than 40 senators and more than 100 representatives, as well as former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. She also earned the endorsements of four governors of Midwestern states that were important to her win: Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Tim Walz of Minnesota, Tony Evers of Wisconsin, and JB Pritzker of Illinois. But that’s not all.
Her campaign has also seen a huge jump in donations. On her first day as a candidate, Harris raised $81 million, the largest fundraiser ever by a single presidential candidate in just 24 hours. The Democratic Super PAC Future Forward was pledged $150 million just one day after Joe Biden announced he was withdrawing from the race. In short, the road to the nomination for Kamala Harris is all downhill.
“I am grateful to President Biden and everyone in the Democratic Party who has already placed their trust in me, and I look forward to making our case directly to the American people,” the vice president added. “Over the coming months, I will be traveling the country talking to Americans about everything that is at stake. I fully intend to unite our party, unite our nation, and defeat Donald Trump in November.” “God bless you all and God bless the United States of America and Joe Biden,” concluded Kamala Harris.
