Until mid-July, Marvin Ducksch had the contractually guaranteed option of joining a new club for a fixed sum and thus turning his back on Werder Bremen. However, this did not happen, so the exit clause has now expired.
“There was nothing concrete, so I didn’t worry about it,” Ducksch told the Bildwhy a clause-based exit was not a concrete topic. The striker explained: “In addition, I feel comfortable here and see that key players like Mitch have extended their contracts. I see that the club is busy making steps forward. That’s why I’m sitting here and I’m very happy with it.”
Statements that initially suggest that Ducksch’s stay is now assured. But that is certainly not the case. Despite his supposedly great satisfaction, the 30-year-old avoided a clear commitment to Werder. “I can’t say that 100 percent,” was his answer to the question of whether a departure is off the table. Instead, he left all doors open: “Of course, anything can happen in football. But I feel good here and don’t necessarily have to move.”
In keeping with this, Ducksch also assumes that Werder would not really turn down any income from a sale. “If a good offer comes in, I can imagine that they will want to sit down with me,” he said openly about his assessment.
If a transfer does become an issue during the summer transfer window, which is still open for several weeks, he would probably seriously consider potential offers. “I wouldn’t do anything just to earn a bit more money. I definitely have to have a good chance of playing. I just love playing football,” he said, even outlining the conditions that are important to him for a possible transfer. He himself would like to have clarity about next season “as soon as possible,” but no exact date can be set.
