The joy among superhero fans overflowed in the early 2000s, when 20th Century Fox made the fantasy of seeing a live-action adaptation of the mythical heroes come true. X-MenWolverine, Storm, Cyclops, Rogue and company unleashed their powers in the trilogy that Bryan Singer began, although with a detail that aroused suspicion.
And for some reason, the main heroes shared a dark colored uniform and made of leather materials. A decision that did not please fans of the mutants too much, as they expected to see them dressed in their classic outfits from the world of Marvel comics.
Now, 24 years later, it has been Kevin Feige who has solved the mystery regarding this matter. During a chat with Brandon Davis, the CEO of Marvel Studioswho served as producer on those films, has targeted the highest positions in the company.
“There were studio executives in charge who knew The Matrix had been a huge success and who wore black leather, so: ‘‘Put black leather on them!’“, Feige says. So the popular science fiction film by the Wachowski sisters was responsible for this choice of costume, as Neo, Trinity and Morpheus were characterized by wearing very dark and leather clothing. It had been released just a year earlier, so the influence it had was very powerful and recent for those responsible.
The truth is that this aesthetic made sense for the time and, far from retracting, the following films returned to it. Today The image of the X-Men dressed like that is iconic.although as a result we have had to wait half a lifetime to enjoy Logan in his legendary yellow and blue suit.
