This July 17th, Warner’s new film, TwistersWith a plot similar to the one released in 1996, but with a much fresher and more current story.
In Twisters, a tragedy starts it all
Young student Kate has been obsessed with tornadoes since she was a little girl. She created her own scale model of a tornado at age 12. And at 22, she has developed a formula to stop tornadoes from moving forward and destroying everything. In theory, it should work.
However, in practice, after facing a tornado, Kate and her friends end up living a traumatic experience. And three of them lose their lives. As a result, Kate abandons her experiments and decides to move away.
Years later, her friend Javi comes to look for her because he is carrying out a new experiment. They want to analyse tornadoes from three different points and obtain a perfect scan.
She is reluctant at first, but upon returning to her home world and realizing how much she enjoys studying tornadoes, she decides to give the field a second chance.
Along the way, she meets many people who are completely different from her and who are in the world of tornado chasing for very different reasons. Among them is a group of YouTubers who consider themselves tornado chasers and who prevent Kate and her friend Javi from doing their job easily.
You’d think that making a film about a meteorological phenomenon wouldn’t be interesting. But it’s quite the opposite. This film presents us with the idea of simply experiencing a tornado. People in Ohio, where the film takes place, seem to be used to it and many have created shelters and places to flee when a tornado approaches. At the same time, there are also people who, accustomed to constant tornado warnings, ignore them and end up having a very bad time.
Twisters is the story of a young girl who doesn’t forget her dreams and who, despite tragedies, always manages to get ahead. She’s resilient, and she’s a great example of a strong and empowered female protagonist. She’s not perfect. She’s human. And she’s great.
Why should you watch Twisters?
This film is an audiovisual marvel that hooks you from the first moment. And it has nothing to envy of the 1996 film… Although it still has the same humor and the same jokes that the other one had. Could it be considered a horror film due to the number of tense moments in which the characters find themselves involved? No. Nothing could be further from the truth.
This film tells us something about a natural phenomenon that, at least here in Spain, we have little knowledge of: tornadoes.
If you are a fan of scary and tense movies… and you also like Glen Powell, who plays the main character and tornado hunter, you can’t miss it in theaters. We hope you enjoy it a lot and that you tell us what you think in the comments. See you soon!
