After Twister (1996) got a new installment, another 90s disaster movie could do the same.
In 2024, Twisters has been released, a natural disaster film with tornadoes as the protagonist and with a cast led by Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea and Maura Tierney. But there was already another previous installment called Twister in 1996 and they could repeat the play with Backdraft from 1991.
Additionally, it is rumored that Glen Powell himself could play another version of Flames, as the executives believe that it is a good time for a disaster movie with a huge fire.
What is the movie Flare Up about?
The disaster film Backdraft is an intense action-drama film released in 1991, directed by Ron Howard. Here is a summary of the plot:
The story centers on two firefighter brothers, Stephen (Kurt Russell) and Brian McCaffrey (William Baldwin), who work at a Chicago fire station. Since childhood, the two brothers have had a tense and complicated relationship, especially after the tragic death of their father, who was also a firefighter and died in the line of duty.
Brian, the youngest brother, has been trying to find his place in life, and finally decides to follow in his brother and father’s footsteps and joins the fire department. However, his inexperience and the shadow of his older brother, Stephen, who is a very respected and brave firefighter, complicate his integration into the team.
The story becomes more complex.
The plot thickens when a series of suspicious fires with a particular pattern, known as “backdrafts,” begin to occur around the city. These fires appear to be intentionally set, and Brian, along with veteran arson investigator Donald “Shadow” Rimgale (Robert De Niro), begins to investigate to uncover the arsonist responsible.
As the investigation progresses, dark secrets and conspiracies are revealed, jeopardizing not only the lives of the firefighters, but also the relationship between the brothers. Tensions rise as Brian and Stephen must confront their differences and work together to stop the arsonist before more lives are lost.
The film combines intense action scenes with deep family drama, and is known for its realistic and spectacular depiction of fires and the work of firefighters. Blaze also stars Scott Glenn, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Donald Sutherland.
