One doctor on TikTok shared his knowledge about these common types of headaches, including one that’s particularly difficult to treat.
He explained that cluster headaches are the most “painful” and “difficult to treat.”
Medical studies have shown that there are more than 150 different types of headaches, which can be classified into two types: primary and secondary. The difference between them is that the latter occurs as a result of complications of another medical condition, while the former does not cause these conditions.
Primary headaches are not related to an existing medical condition, but are the result of physical and mental stress. Primary headaches can also be hereditary.
As for secondary headaches, they are the result of an existing health condition. Some of the existing causes that cause secondary headaches may be a chronic condition, a head injury, an infection, and others.
Here are the 3 main types of headaches that you should know how to distinguish well:
cluster headache
This type of headache affects people in waves of pain that occur throughout the day and can last for weeks or even months. The pain is usually on one side of the head, usually around one eye. The attacks of pain can start very quickly and can end very quickly, however they can last from 15 minutes to 3 hours. The patient may also experience facial sweating. Medication can help treat long-term cluster headaches, so medical advice should be sought.
tension headache
This type of headache can make your head feel like it’s under a lot of pressure. The pain often occurs on both sides of the head, and sometimes affects the face and neck as well. These headaches are usually caused by stress, caffeine, or muscle problems.
Migraines
People with migraines often feel pain on only one side of the head. They have additional symptoms such as frequent urination, persistent fatigue and a stiff neck. There are “warning signs” before a migraine occurs, including feeling dizzy or having trouble speaking. It is advisable to never ignore a headache, especially if it is new, recurring or changing in nature.
