Marc Roma, son of Nani, suffered an accident last May while competing in a motocross race. The story of this young 15-year-old rider shows us the true meaning of resilience, while reminding us of the risks that motor sports can entail.
Two months later, the son of the champion of Rally Dakar en motos y coches has shared a video on his Instagram account in which he shows the complicated recovery process after the accident. In the images, Marc Roma appears with little mobility in his legs.
Message from Marc Roma
“Two months since that moment that changed my life in a second. An accident, many grey days in an ICU, many things I didn’t understand, many life lessons ahead. In short, a change that no one is prepared for.
And the first lesson is that you have to fight. I’m going to fight to improve every day, to be strong and to go home soon. I’m going to fight for myself, for my family and my friends, for my body and to keep going. And that’s how I’m going to overcome myself.
And on the path of my struggle I will learn, I will grow and I will continue. And I have already learned a lot. To appreciate every little thing, because without your loved ones, you are nobody.
Thank you all for being with me. Thank you @iguttmann for taking such good care of me.
Thanks to all the people who make this path easier.
We continue.”
Marc Roma has been recovering at the Institut Guttmann in Barcelona, a neurorehabilitation hospital specialising in spinal cord injuries. In the video he shared on social media, the young driver shows his long scar on his back, as well as the exercises he is doing, helped by professionals and his family, in order to recover.
