Ardea – A judicial breakthrough has finally arrived in the case of the assault on the municipal employee that took place last September 26 (read here). The Judge for Preliminary Investigations of the Court of Velletri issued a sentence confirming the defendant’s responsibility, sentencing him to pay a fine of 1,500 euros in addition to the legal costs. Alternatively, the defendant may serve the sentence by converting it into 20 days of imprisonment.
Municipal employee attacked in broad daylight
The episode dates back to the late afternoon of September 26, when the municipal employee, responsible for an important office of the Municipality of Ardea, was attacked on the street in Nuova Florida. According to initial testimonies, the worker stopped the car thinking that the man waving in the middle of the street was in danger. However, he found himself facing a violent physical attack.
Two contrasting versions
The story has seen two contrasting versions emerge. In the first story, reported by the employee himself, the attacker allegedly punched him, sparking a fight that ended only with the intervention of some of the attacker’s acquaintances. The employee then went to the emergency room for tests.
The alleged attacker later gave his version of events. (read here)declaring that the official had started the verbal aggression, threatening him and hitting him with a kick. According to this version, it was the patrons of a bar who intervened to stop the fight.
The court ruling
The Preliminary Investigation Judge carefully examined both versions, reaching the conclusion that the evidence confirms the aggressor’s responsibility towards the municipal employee. This is what emerges from the Criminal Sentence Decree.
The sentence includes the payment of a fine of 1,500 euros plus court costs. Alternatively, the defendant will have the option of converting the sentence into 20 days of imprisonment. The man will still have the opportunity to appeal the sentence within the next 15 days.
The reaction of the municipal administration
The municipal administration of Ardea, led by mayor Maurizio Cremonini, had expressed full solidarity with the assaulted employee since the beginning of the incident. “We firmly condemn the attack of which our municipal employee was the victim – declared mayor Cremonini -. We trust in the work of the police and the judiciary”.
This ruling represents an important step forward in the protection of public employees, who are often victims of aggression and threats in workplaces that should be safe and protected. The hope is that similar episodes will not be repeated and that the proper functioning of the municipal administration will no longer be endangered by acts of violence.
For the sake of accuracy, and to protect those under investigation, we remind you that evidence is gathered in court and that the Italian judicial system provides for three levels of judgment.
