It was just a week ago when Nintendo sowed mystery in the hearts of gamers with the presentation of Emio, a mysterious character ready to raise questions among the company’s followers. The company anticipated that this new title would deal with very dark themes, although it has not been necessary to wait much longer to clear up any doubts. The new Nintendo Switch title is called Emio – The Smiler: Famicom Detective Club and belongs to a saga that has been absent for more than 30 years.
Emio – The Smiler will challenge players to unravel the truth behind a twisted and sinister suspense story in which they must solve the mystery behind the tragic murder of a high school student in which a disturbing clue leads back to past unsolved cases and an urban legend about a killer whose methods chill the blood.
Players will discover that Eisuke Sasaki, a high school student, is found dead with a paper bag decorated with a smiley face on his head. This macabre detail is reminiscent of clues from multiple unsolved murders from 18 years ago and the urban legend of Emio the Smiler, a serial killer who granted his victims “an eternal smile.”
As a member of the Utsugi Detective Agency, you must investigate Eisuke’s death, looking for connections to other crimes from the past. Interrogating colleagues and witnesses, traveling to crime scenes, and using your wits to solve the mystery by checking a notebook will be key in this adventure.
To the Famicom Detective Club saga
Famicom Detective Club is a series of mystery-adventure games developed by Nintendo and originally released in Japan in the 1980s for the Famicom Disk System. The series consists of two main titles: The Missing Heir and The Girl Who Stands Behind, which follow the investigations of a young detective who solves crimes in small villages and rural schools.
The games stood out for their immersive narrative, detailed graphics for their time, and an atmosphere that mixes suspense with the supernatural, returning in 2021 with remasters for Nintendo Switch, introducing improvements to graphics and sound to make them known to the rest of the world.
Now, Emio – The Smiler: Famicom Detective Club will be released on the hybrid console on August 28th.
