The gap widened after the Round at Donington Park, dominated by Toprak Razgatlioglu. Having won at Misano, the BMW rider scored another hat-trick on the British track, increasing his advantage to 41 points over Nicolò Bulega, who is firmly in second place in the Drivers’ standings with 200 points. A margin, that of the leader of the World Championship, which is starting to become consistent especially compared to the reigning champion Alvaro Bautista, in third position with a 55 point gap from the top.
Thanks to a solid weekend at his home track, Alex Lowes consolidated his fourth place in the championship, reducing his gap to 21 points from the Spaniard of the Ducati. Andrea Locatelli, first of the Yamaha riders, completed the top 5 with a haul of 116 points, followed by Andrea Iannone.
Petrucci threatens Iannone among the Independents
Despite having experienced a stage to forget, also due to a problem with his right arm that led to his retirement in Race 2, the GoEleven rider managed to hold on to sixth place overall and first in the Independent riders’ standings, but with a very narrow margin over Danilo Petrucci.
In fact, only three points separate the stoic Barni Racing team rider from the Abruzzese, author of another Round as an absolute protagonist, despite the inflammation in his right shoulder injured in motocross. Eighth position for Remy Gardner, with Michael van der Mark and Dominique Agerter closing the Top 10 ahead of Jonathan Rea fresh from the podium with Yamaha colors.
