After a rocky start on Steam, a game called Snowbreak: Containment Zone turned things around with a strategy that many have labeled as downright fanservice, due to the inclusion of attractive anime girls. And the developers’ bold decision paid off, as player numbers skyrocketed and positive reviews came pouring in.
The title is a sci-fi shooter with RPG elements, which combines gacha mechanics with third-person shooter gameplay. Originally released for PC, Android and iOS, it was a moderate success on Steam. With only 1,000 players at its peak, the expected big success on this platform seemed far away. However, Amazing Seasun, the studio behind the title, did not give up and responded to player feedback. This is how they bet on what the community was asking for, giving them more interaction and closeness with the attractively designed characters, which are regularly known as anime waifus.
A strategy that many consider questionable, and which attracted some criticism, but which ultimately proved successful. Videos on YouTube promoting the game show the characters in provocative poses and situations, idolizing the main character. One character practices yoga in tight clothing in front of a mirror, while another dances on a pole.
You can read: “Fuckingly Based” actors refuse to work on game because of its “male focus” and its creators respond that they are only concerned with “satisfying the needs of their players”
The content strategy strikes a chord with gamers, which can be seen in the Chinese market, where the game has been rated 18+ due to its explicit content. Something worth noting is that this changes in other regions, where it maintains the 12+ rating, probably because this was granted before the change in content strategy.
However, this hasn’t stopped Snowbreak: Containment Zone from reaching number 2 in the Chinese mobile app store among gamers, while the number of players on Steam has increased almost tenfold following the latest update.
Finally, this proves that despite the controversy, the future of Snowbreak: Containment Zone seems assured. With a current rating of “Very Positive” on Steam and 81% positive reviews, development continues, with new content, characters, outfits and scenes in the plans.
