Another one-off race, dominated from the first to the last lap by Toprak Razgatlioglu, who says he doesn’t enjoy winning by a wide margin, but who certainly entertains his fans and especially BMW, who finally sees their millionaire investments pay off.
The Turk’s pace, at 1’26, was once again unsustainable for all his opponents and allowed him to accumulate an advantage in a few laps that he was then able to manage.
Just like in the sprint race, also in Race 2 only Bulega tried to keep up with the pace of the possessed Turk, he took a deserved second place and maintained second position in the championship where he is 41 points behind Toprak and 14 ahead of his title-winning teammate Alvaro Bautista.
Third step of the podium for a very good Alex Lowes, who must now be considered among the protagonists of this 2024 championship and who occupies fourth position in the championship.
Scott Redding celebrates and repeats this morning’s fourth place. The Englishman on BMW had to give up third place to Lowes, but kept behind the recovering Bautista. Having fallen incredibly on the reconnaissance lap, the Spanish Ducati rider kept calm and rode a determined race, which brought him to the final fifth place. He is not the Bautista of years past, but the determination is always the same. And, speaking of determination, what can we say about Danilo Petrucci who, shoulder or no shoulder, finished sixth, and preceded the Yamaha pair formed by Andrea Locatelli and Jonathan Rea, who did not repeat the podium of the short race, but at least showed that he can keep up with his teammate. Behind the six-time world champion we find another Yamaha, that of Dominique Aegerter while in tenth position Axel Bassani smiles as he continues the work of adapting to his Ninja.
Remy Gardner and especially Michael Van der Mark with the second official BMW disappoint, finishing eleventh and twelfth respectively. Unrecognizable Michael Ruben Rinaldi only seventeenth with the Panigale V4 of Team Motocorsa.
It is worth noting Andrea Iannone’s retirement with seven laps to go, due to pain in his right arm, probably caused by compartment syndrome.
