The fight between Shigaraki and Star and Stripe was very good, but it also had its shortcomings.

One of the most shocking and impressive moments of this seventh season of My Hero Academia has definitely been the confrontation between Star and Stripe and Shigaraki. This woman is a fairly new character and is considered the #1 heroine in the United States. In addition, she had always admired her idol, All Might, who saved her as a child and inspired her to follow in his footsteps. Eventually, she would become one of the best female characters in the spring 2024 anime.
There’s no denying that the battle was spectacular and the show of determination by this woman, who even with death stalking her, did not hesitate to sacrifice herself to protect her companions and give the heroes of Japan a certain advantage. However, despite this, some fans consider that this mini arc had wasted potential with these characters. And all of this is based on the premise that Star and Stripe became, in a few episodes, a very beloved character and its end was regrettable.
Star and Stripe vs. Shigaraki’s battle was epic, but fans are criticizing wasted potential
As we mentioned, Star and Stripe is a fairly new character to be introduced to the series. We also got to know a little more about her past, where it was revealed to us that her family was rescued by All Might when they were in the United States. This inspired her and she wanted to follow in the hero’s footsteps.
The heroine, whose real name is Cathleen Bate, became the #1 in the United States, thanks also to her Quirk ‘New Order’, which allowed her to assign rules to everything around her and alter many things. It is a very versatile ability with a lot of potential, but it is also difficult to use due to its restrictions.
Star and Stripe faced Shigaraki in an aerial fight, while the heroine was helped by the United States Air Force, planes piloted by her friends. This fight was impressive, as we were able to see the full potential of her gift, but also the determination of this woman, who was willing to do whatever it took to buy time for the heroes of Japan. Even if this means going against the orders of her country.
Although some may have thought that this was an easy battle for Shigaraki, who is a collection of all kinds of Quirks that he can use at will, the truth is that it was not. In fact, Star and Stripe managed to seriously injure the young man and even destroy many of the Quirks he had stolen. Not to mention that he also resisted giving up his quirk, using it wonderfully to continue destroying the villain from within.
Beyond all the overwhelming power of Star and Stripe, the truth is that she is a heroine with a lot of charisma and that she charmed the fans, who, in just a few episodes, connected with her and supported her until the end. In fact, in response to this reception, the author made a special illustration as a tribute. Sadly, this fight ended with the death of this woman, who sacrificed herself to destroy many of the villain’s gifts from within.
And this is where the problem occurs, as some fans believe that this girl had more potential. In other words, that she had even greater potential and that it was wasted in this fight. And considering everything that happens after this fight, fans have the idea that the woman, in reality, did not manage to do much and that her sacrifice was in vain. Yes, Shigaraki lost many gifts, but he later regained some of them. And, in fact, most of the ones he lost were not so well-known or relevant.
Another problem with this arc, according to fans, is the issue of introducing her with so much expectation and excitement only to kill her off a few episodes later. This is a clear example of wasted potential, according to fans of the work. But that’s not all, as fans consider that the woman should have lost her Quirk, but survived to interact and meet other characters. Obviously, she was not going to kill the villain, as that is the task of the protagonist, but she deserved to stay alive.
