Wizards of the Coast invited us to the presentation of their next expansion for Magic: The Gathering, Bloomburrowwhich will be released on August 2, 2024. A new expansion that marks a shift in the theme of the edition and brings the animal kingdom to the card battle. The most European fauna finally has the place it deserves among the enormous collection of cards that Magic represents.

Bloomburrow brings us little creatures to live big adventures
Bloomburrow will arm to the teeth small creatures such as mice, weasels, ferrets, frogs or squirrels, as well as owls, rabbits, hares, foxes and various birds of prey. And he will do it with an artistic sense that is one of the greatest surprises of this edition, the turning point that makes Magic: The Gathering give one more twist to the whole universe you have created for the occasion.
Bloomburrow is the first game in the Dragonstorm arc. A motley crew of anthropomorphic adventurers must band together to undertake an important quest to save the kingdom from the elemental beasts of doom and the Great Night Owl. Glarb, King of the Frogfolk and a powerful wizard, is said to have information about the beasts of doom. Now it’s up to Mabel and her colorful companions Gev, Hugs, Finneas, and Zoraline to redeem their world.
Bloomburrow The game takes place on the plane of Bloomburrow, a world of cute anthropomorphic animals that is devoid of humans. This world is filled with squirrels, frogs, mice, and rabbits, proving that even the smallest creatures can have a big impact. The animals have an advanced culture and are the protagonists of the whole. They dress, speak, and use magic. Unlike the humanoid “animals” of other planes (Leonines, Loxodonts, Aven, Rhoxes, Nezumi, etc.), the animalfolk of Bloomburrow are the size of normal animals of their species.
As in Segovia, foreign Planeswalkers transform when they “walk here”; in the case of Bloomburrowhuman Planeswalkers transform into anthropomorphic animals like the local races while here. It’s unknown if traveling here on the Path of Omens will transform oneself, or if it only affects humans. That said, seeing Jace as a fox is one of the most successful things ever done in Magic: The Gathering history.
Card treatments, collecting and products for all tastes
Bloomburrow will come loaded with Game Boosters, Collector Boosters, Bloomburrow Bundle, four Commander decks and a Starter Kit. As a detail and a twist, it will be the last set printed in Chinese. The set introduces a new booster pack, the seven-card Booster Value pack. A new pack that in theory will have a lower value than the Game Boosters.
The highlighted grove treatment features an artistic style reminiscent of fantasy tales in frames evoking the animals of Bloomburrow. Additionally, five of these feature illustrations by award-winning guest artist David Petersen. Legendary artist Mitsuhiro Arita, whose works have made him one of the most prestigious artists, lends his talents in Bloomburrow Featuring the borderless illustration of Lumra, the Forest’s Roar, which captures the primal, devastating power of the beasts of calamity.
There will also be new card treatments and different art, which is already a tradition in Magic: The Gathering and this time, once again, with a delicate taste for good art. Bloomburrow features 10 Special Guests (SPG #54-63). These are incorporated into the Game Booster List and can be played in Limited games. You will find a non-foil Special Guest card in 1 of every 64 Game Boosters. Traditional Special Guest cards can be found in Collector Boosters. One example is new art for “Sword of Fire and Ice.”
