It’s no secret that the My Hero Academia manga is heading towards its end. And each new chapter is a step closer to its conclusion, which will be an emotional moment for everyone who grew up with Deku and company. On the other hand, the anime is adapting the seventh season and we’ve already had some memorable and impressive moments, such as the fight between Star and Stripe against Shigaraki.
However, recently, the author of My Hero Academia has admitted that he is trying hard to compete directly with the great work they are doing with the anime. In other words, the manga is competing with the anime. This is quite an interesting revelation and also confirms Kohei Horikoshi’s great commitment to his work. In the following lines, we will tell you all about it.
My Hero Academia author confirms he often tries hard to compete with anime
Both the My Hero Academia manga and anime are adapting important points from the story. On the one hand, the anime is tackling the preparations to start the big final war between the heroes and All For One and his entourage. But that’s not all, as the manga has already finished these events and is showing us the outcome and the fate of the characters. In fact, the fate of the Todoroki family dynamic has already been revealed.
It’s no secret that anime and its popularity have served to bring the story of Deku and his friends to a whole new audience. This is something that Kohei Horikoshi has continually been grateful for, and he is happy that his work has reached so many people around the world who enjoy what he writes.
But that’s not all, since in addition to being a source of gratitude, the My Hero Academia anime is also Kohei Horikoshi’s main rival when it comes to writing and developing his story. And this has been revealed by the author himself for Da Vinci Magazine. And the user @shibuyasmash has shared some screenshots on the X platform, where we can read more about it.

In these images we can read part of the mangaka’s interview with the magazine, in which he says he feels happy that the anime has brought his life’s work to a new audience. But that’s not all, since the most remarkable thing is the revelation that it competes against the anime.
In Horikoshi’s words, whenever he watches the anime, he feels like he doesn’t want to lose to this adaptation. Therefore, he asks the anime team to make their adaptation as good as possible, even better than the manga from which the material comes. However, when they succeed, he ends up regretting it, so he competes with the anime in this sense, as he tries to test himself and do things he has never done, challenging himself to create powerful things that can only be executed in the manga format. And as time goes by, this is something that has become more complicated and difficult to achieve.
This is quite an interesting statement, as the fact that manga inspires anime and vice versa is a fantastic thing, as it helps both formats to always be the best they can be. Furthermore, the fact that the author confirmed this also serves to understand that he is completely committed to offering the best possible story, adding unique elements that remain in the minds of readers.
Obviously, anime and manga are two different formats, so they have unique resources that work well in their respective mediums. Therefore, it is important that both the manga author and the animation team strive to do their best and take advantage of all these possibilities to deliver the best story.
