Charging for electric vehicles at Volvo charging stations in Brazil will begin this Wednesday (10). Previously, any electric vehicle, regardless of brand, could use the charging points. However, the high demand from drivers of cars from other automakers led the German company to reevaluate the free service.

Volvo’s justification for starting the charge
According to Volvo Car Brasil, 52 of the 101 announced charging stations have already been installed, totaling 19 thousand kilometers of roads and 37 connected routes in Brazil. Last year, 40 thousand recharges were made, a number that corresponds to 1 million kWh consumed. Of these, 75% were made by drivers of cars from other manufacturers. The company states that it helped “pave the way for electrification in Brazil” and that charging for recharges is necessary to improve the service. The German company notes that Volvo cars will be able to continue using the stations free of charge.

Amounts to be charged
With the change, the use of electric charging stations by customers of other brands will cost R$4 per kWh. In addition, there will be a charge of a connectivity fee of R$2.50 (the amount will be charged when charging begins, except for Volvo customers).
The so-called idle charge will also come into effect. R$5 per minute will be charged, with a tolerance of 15 minutes and billing from the 16th minute, only at fast chargers on highways. This charge also applies to Volvo car owners and aims to avoid waiting lines for recharging.
To check which connected chargers will start charging, customers can access the Volvo Car Eletropostos app and filter for paid electric stations.
