After years of high expectations, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II debuted as one of the biggest titles for Xbox. However, its debut took place amidst the uncertainty caused by the closure of studios and layoffs applied by Microsoft in its video game business and the maxim repeated by its executives that every project must be profitable and that’s it. Although the company does not reveal sales data, analysis firms are aware of it and one of them revealed how Ninja Theory’s game fared.
How did Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II perform in the US when it was released?
According to information from Mat Piscatella, a renowned analyst at Circana, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II debuted at number 37 on the May 2024 sales list in the United States according to data on its commercial performance in terms of digital copies, do not forget that it has no physical release. This Ninja Theory title was released on May 21 on Xbox Series X|S and Windows, but as revealed in this report, it did not reach a notable position among the best-sellers of that month.
The analyst also revealed that just considering the list of the most played video games on Xbox, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II reached position 21, so it was far from being a hit for a highly anticipated exclusive.
Hellblade II debuted at #37 in the US
Meanwhile, in terms of Xbox Game Pass performance, Mat Piscatella revealed that it ranked 12th in the most played game in May on Microsoft’s service. This information also confirms Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II’s poor performance in terms of player numbers, as it debuted with fewer players than recent Xbox exclusives like Redfall and Hi-fi Rush, which caught the attention of many players at the time.
Although the sales figures for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II are not encouraging, recent reports indicate that Ninja Theory has already received the green light from Microsoft for a new project, so for now, the studio is not considered to be in danger despite the results recorded by the sequel to its gem Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.
