The National Coordination of Teachers of the Human Rights subject expresses its deepest condolences for yet another murder committed against the female gender: another victim, a physiotherapist, Manuela Petrangeli, 50 years old, in Rome, falls under the sawn-off shotgun blasts fired by her ex-partner, Gianluca Molinaro.
Manuela is certainly another victim of barbarism, of sick possessivenesswhich makes human beings resemble objects of personal property. Over the years, cases of femicide are growing at an exponential rate: in Italy, undoubtedly, there is a shortage of “antibodies” to reject the arrogance that has as its origin gender inequality. The female body in advertising and entertainment products is often instrumentalized; women are frequently exiled to roles of subordination, inactivity e condescension compared to male partners.
In light of the many tragic news stories reported almost daily and having women as victims, guilty of self-determination and brutalized by emotionally “uneducated” companionsin a society where the woman’s body is often commodified and trivialized, it is necessary to act quickly to sensitize young people to respect others and spread the values of reciprocity and equality.
In particular, it is necessary to start educational paths that provide the tools to recognize forms of bullying more or less hidden within interpersonal dynamics between the sexes to eliminate them and counteract negative emotional states (aggression, low self-esteem) in order to achieve greater self-awareness.
In Italian schools it is necessary promote empathy education and emotional education; in particular, it is necessary to build an educational system based on personal and relational skills, promoting the correct management of one’s emotional sphere and developing empathy for the purpose of recognizing and respecting others; furthermore, it is necessary to implement training interventions aimed at making young people responsible by opening them up to solidarity, active citizenship and the values of civil coexistence, developing transversal skills with the support of new technologies.
