When talking about the most influential and best-rated anime films in history, it is extremely difficult to omit certain works by Studio Ghibli, responsible for great cult works such as ‘My Neighbor Totoro’, ‘Princess Mononoke’ and even works mature and dramatic like ‘The Grave of the Fireflies’.
After triumphing among the public and professional critics with ‘Spirited Away’, the animation studio headed by Hayao Miyazaki gave us another notable exponent in the animation genre in 2004: ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’, a film that is 20 years old and that announced just a few days ago its return to the cinemas of our country.

Like the film starring Chihiro and Haku, one of the strong points of ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ is the overflowing imagination that Miyazaki demonstrates in a large number of scenes. Its plot follows the steps of Sophie, a young woman who becomes the victim of a spell that gives her the appearance of a 90-year-old woman. To find a cure, our protagonist will embark on a journey where she will meet various characters and cross paths with the enigmatic wizard Howl.
It is worth noting that ‘Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind’, one of the first films directed by Miyazaki, was also re-released in Spanish cinemas this month, in this case to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
Today, Studio Ghibli’s legacy in the world of cinema is practically unblemished. ‘The Boy and the Heron’, Miyazaki’s most recent feature film, managed to win such important awards as the Golden Globe for Best Animated Film in an edition that had to compete with such interesting films as ‘Spider-Man: Crossing the Multiverse’ or ‘Suzume’, the brilliant feature film by Makoto Shinkai.
