At the end of 2021 Tony Cairoli officially retired from world championship competitions, hanging up his helmet and moving to the role of KTM team manager. That, however, wasn’t his path yet and when Ducati’s offer arrived he immediately accepted. The presentation of the new off-road project of the Bolognese company took place at the end of January and he and Alessandro Lupino (eight-time Italian motocross champion) were present to unveil the bikes, both enlisted as test riders.
An eagerly awaited return
With Lupino and Cairoli, Ducati has thus secured highly experienced talents to become successful also in the world of knobby wheels, after having won everything in both Superbike and MotoGP.
In March it was Lupino who brought the new Ducati Desmo450 MX to its racing debut in the Italian Motocross Pro-Prestige MX1 championship. A debut with results beyond all expectations: pole position and victory in the first heat.
Today the fourth round of the Italian MX1 Championship takes place on the Santa Barbara Circuit in Ponte a Egola (Pisa), the first race will start at 1.30pm, the second at 4.10pm. The live broadcasts will be broadcast for free on FXAction’s Facebook and Youtube channels.
