Latina, 18 June 2024 – Today it was held in the presence of the Prefect of Latina, His Excellency Dr. Maurizio Falco, of the Lazio Regional Commander of the Guardia di Finanza, Division General Virgilio Pomponi, of the Mayor of Sabaudia – Dr. Alberto Moscow and other local civil and military authorities, the dedication ceremony to the Financier Filippo Mondelli of the barracks headquarters of the Tenenza of Sabaudia.
The financier Filippo Mondelli, born in Como on 18 June 1994, yes enlisted in the Corps on May 8, 2018as a military athlete of the Fiamme Gialle – Rowing Section.

Godmother of the ceremony, Mrs. Monica, mother of the late Filippo, who discovered, together with the Lazio Regional Commander, accompanied by the Prefect of Latina and the Mayor of Sabaudia, the commemorative plaque placed at the entrance of the barracks.
Also present at the ceremony were numerous family members and friends of the soldier, the Mayor of Cernobbio – Dr. Matteo Monti, the town where the financier Mondelli grew up, as well as the Technical-Competitive Deputy Commander FF.GG. of the Guardia di Finanza Sports Center, T.Col. Gabriele Di Paolo, and the Commander of the III Fiamme Gialle Athlete Unit, Maj. Danilo Cassoni.
The event also saw the participation, in addition to the soldiers of the Tenenza of Sabaudia and the departments dependent on the Provincial Command of Latina, of a large representation of financiers from the Sports Centre, athletes and non-athletes, colleagues of the Financier Mondelli, as well as young boys belonging to the Fiamme Gialle youth sections of rowing and canoeing.
In his speech, the Provincial Commander, Col. Giovanni Marchetti, underlined how the figure of the Financier Mondelli, beyond his brilliant sporting successes, has constituted and will forever constitute an example of values and qualities such as a sense of duty, a spirit of sacrifice , strength of mind, altruism and generosity towards others, which must characterize and guide the men of the institutions and those who work at the service of the community. Colonel Marchetti also focused on the particular meaning that today’s event takes on in light of the strong and profound ethical, moral and cultural bond that historically links the Guardia di Finanza with the municipality of Sabaudia.
The Mayor of Sabaudia, Dr. Alberto Mosca, during his greeting, recalled the importance of examples such as the Fin. Filippo Mondelli, recalling how he was known by the community of Sabaudia for his moral and human qualities, and underlining how the Guardia di Finanza, present with the Tenenza and with the Athletes Unit of the Sports Centre, has over time become an integral part of the municipality of Sabaudia .
The Prefect of Latina highlighted how figures such as that of the financier Mondelli must constitute models of life and behavior for all actors in the security sector but also for all men and institutions serving the community, as well as an example and stimulus for the younger generations.
The Regional Commander, Division General Virgilio Pomponi, underlined that it is thanks to Financiers like Filippo Mondelli that over time the Corps has become a modern and strategic institution for the country: the moral and spiritual heritage that Financier Mondelli left will have to be therefore for every financier a guide and a reference in the daily fulfillment of their tasks in guaranteeing legality and the common good, but also an example and stimulus for the community and for the younger ones to promote the culture of legality, respect for the rules and The importance of sport as a training ground for life.
On the occasion of the ceremony, the Sports Center and the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Latina jointly organised, in collaboration with the “Io sono Filippo APS” social promotion association, established by the will of the family members, a sporting competition with the aim of charity, the third edition of the “CHALLENGE FILIPPO MONDELLI”, sponsored by the Italian Rowing Federation, which made it possible to raise the current sum of approximately 8000 euros, to be donated to the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute of Bologna, which was treated by the financier Mondelli .
