The Batman: James Gunn denies cancellation

James Gunn, the director of Superman and creative head of the DCU, addresses rumors about the cancellation of The Batman – Parte II

James Gunn reveals if The Batman – Part II will be cancelled. Gunn is hard at work putting together the next ten years of releases in the new DC Universe. However, as one of the co-CEOs of DC Studios, the director's job is to handle all DC adaptations, which includes the upcoming The Batman – Part II and other Elseworlds stories. As the updates on the sequel of The Batman by Matt Reeves have been difficult to obtain, rumors about the film's cancellation have begun to spread, and Gunn has now addressed them.

On Twitter (via DCFilmNews /Twitter), Gunn confirmed that The Batman – Part II and director Matt Reeves' planned Batman trilogy will not be cancelled.

The first appearance of Robert Pattinson's Batman was a huge success, both in terms of box office and reception from critics and audiences. The Batman universe will soon expand with the series The Penguin in September. The spin-off will close the gap between the two films Batman. More spin-offs are planned Batman among DC's future projects.

Why updates The Batman – Parte II are they scarce?

The rumors that The Batman – Part II was going to be canceled come from the fact that there have been few updates on the status of the DC movie. This is because the Batman sequel was one of several projects affected by the 2023 Hollywood strikes that paralyzed the industry for months. Because of that, Reeves' work on the film's script had to be paused, and although Warner Bros. Discovery made it a priority as soon as the Writers Guild of America strike ended, it was too late.

Due to the strikes, The Batman – Part II had to be delayed, giving Reeves more time to craft the perfect script for the DC sequel before cameras started rolling. The Batman – Part II now it went from 2025 to a year later, and the film will be released in theaters on October 2, 2026. The original plan was reportedly for Pattinson to film new scenes as the Dark Knight starting last November. After the delay, it is reported that The Batman – Part II will begin filming in April 2025.

With the film delayed and Reeves working on the script for The Batman – Part II, fans will have to wait longer for details on what to expect. However, if the April 2025 filming start date is accurate, then casting should begin this fall/winter. While the movie is still two years away, DC fans should at least start to learn which iconic Batman characters will return or debut in the sequel, with Pattinson leading the way. The Batman – Part II like Bruce Wayne once again.
