EU, Juncker: “I am worried about the advance of the far right in Europe”
The elections Europeans have concluded and the verdict is clear, the Ppeunited with the socialists and liberalsstill has the majority. Ursula's road to re-election by the Leyen as EU Commissioner she seems leveled out. But there is the unknown extreme righta figure which at a European level cannot be considered marginal, given the advance especially in France e in Germania. Von der Leyen for this reason could be tempted by an agreement with the conservatives led by the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Melons to strengthen itself, but former EU Commissioner Jean-Claude Juncker sends her a rather clear message: “The 40 seat margin – Juncker tells La Stampa – is enough for her re-election. A Von der Leyen Meloni is no use, the far right must be left out“.
“I am reassured – continues Juncker to La Stampa – by the fact that al European Parliament there is one more pro-European majority with centrist forces, but I remain worried and anguished about the progression of the far right. This is a well-established phenomenon, but it represents a danger for the European Union it puts the spirit of solidarity at risk which should characterize EU action. The EPP won the elections and will be able to form a majority with liberals and socialists. If von der Leyen has the intelligence to find a political agreement of content, perhaps including the GreensI have no doubt that will be reconfirmed“.
