“I put a plan in my head”
After the announcement of Marc Marquez's arrival in the official Ducati team, the Spaniard was a guest on the television show El Larguero, where he told all the background to this story.
Marc has clear objectives: “Next year we will have to fight for the championship. I made a very important decision, that of leaving Repsol Honda, the team of my life, with a difficult emotional load, but I did it by giving priority to my sporting career. When there are results, there is motivation. You have to have courage and desire when you face such an important challenge, because I will get on the best bike, the one that wins, and we'll see what happens. At that point you expose yourself to everything, to criticism, to praise, to everything that can happen, but I wanted to do it because I saw that otherwise my sporting career would have been different. I had four years of injuries, without results, and motivation was difficult to maintain. And above all trust. I put a plan in my head, a strategy, and it's going very well.”
The fundamental role of Dall'Igna
His future teammate Francesco Bagnaia did not congratulate him, but the Ducati CEO did: “Yes, Claudio Domenicali complimented me.” Ducati Corse general director Gigi Dall'Igna admitted that what worries him most will be the sporting management of the garage, and Marc said: “In the garage the atmosphere will have to be calm. War, on the track, calm in the garage.” Dall'Igna himself was fundamental in this operation: “We have always had a very direct and sincere relationship with Gigi, and I am in Ducati thanks to Gigi Dall'Igna. He is the engineer who won with everything he touched. One of the sentences I told him when we started talking was that for me the most important thing was that in 2025 and 2026 he would always be in Ducati. I added: 'Otherwise we don't even need to sit down.'”
Among other things, he admitted that there had already been contacts with him: “The years were 2017 and 2018. We were always very direct and in those years I told them not to make me any offers because I was doing well in Honda and I didn't want to enter the I played to see if one would give me more than the other. When I have something clear, I choose what I feel and what I felt now was being in Ducati.”
