Jens Lehmann doubts Mikel Arteta's capability to achieve success in winning trophies with Arsenal. Lehmann was part of the squad that last won the Premier League title with the club in the 2003/04 season.
“(Mikel) Arteta has put in a satisfactory performance so far, but whether he is the right person to achieve success, I'm not sure. Because you need to prove it. We were able to win the title on two occasions. There are failures at important moments that have fatal consequences.”
“Sometimes those who appoint coaches don't understand that their personality is also important. “Is the coach someone who has a winning mentality or someone who has a positive personality who can only lift the team to a certain level?” said Lehmann in an interview with the Telegraph.
Arsenal failed to win the Premier League title during Mikel Arteta's coaching tenure for two consecutive seasons. The North London club is still unable to end its domestic league title drought which has lasted for 20 years.
As time goes by, the Gunners' development with Arteta has the potential to end bitterly if they cannot maintain their lead at the top of the domestic league standings, as they have experienced in the last two years.
