The latest Batman comics have shown how Bruce Wayne has been forced to test his limits, after battling a twisted version of himself in the form of Zur-En-Arrh. For this reason, DC has made Zur-En-Arrh one of DC's most powerful villains, but Batman ultimately achieved victory by sacrificing Red Hood. The Dark Knight discovered that there was another way to end the threat that Zur-En-Arrh posed, so it ended up being an important moment in the lives of Bruce Wayne and Red Hood that will change them forever.
The sacrifice of an important ally of Bruce Wayne was enough to stop the threat
In the comic Batman #148, DC published what would be the shocking climax of the Gotham Bat's final battle against Zur-En-Arrh. While it's true that his evil alter ego still had an entire army of robots and a nearly indestructible body due to the Failsafe contingency robot, Batman came up with the only plan capable of putting an end to Zur-En's ideas. -Arrh to reform Gotham.
While fighting Zur-En-Arrh, Jason Todd received a fatal blow to the head that killed him virtually instantly. This is a moment that feels particularly tragic, as Batman appears overcome with grief over the death of his son, only for it to be revealed that this was part of Bruce Wayne's plan to take down Zur-En-Arrh from Once for all.
Red Hood is probably the Robin who has had the most experience with death, as his more modern nature is due to what he suffered at the hands of the Joker. Batman's plan to defeat Zur-En-Arrh required someone to die, so there was no candidate that made more sense than him. Although Batman initially intended to sacrifice himself, Red Hood knew that the world needed Batman much more than him. He volunteered to take his place, proving that Red Hood will always be haunted by death.
At the same time, the most important rule Batman has is not to kill and that also included Failsafe. In this sense, the death of Jason Todd was the key necessary to defeat Zur-En-Arrh, but Bruce Wayne had a plan so that this death was not permanent. While it is true that Zur-En-Arrh did kill Jason Todd again, he was only dead for a few brief moments. Bruce Wayne implemented a new suit that would inject Jason Todd with a substance to revive him, so this time he was prepared to not lose his son again. Together they ended Zur-En-Arrh forever.
