After the leap forward last April, there was a fear that May 2024 could mark a slowdown mainly due to the vagaries of a colder and rainier spring than hoped. Fortunately, the storms did not dampen the desire for motorbikes and registrations of motorbikes, scooters and mopeds overall recorded a good 6.3% compared to May 2023.
Sales for May 2024: motorcycles do well, scooters hold up, mopeds do poorly
The data provided as always by ANCMA confirm the growth of the motorized two-wheeler market. The increase of 6.35% is equal to 45,624 units placed on the market. For the first time since the beginning of the year, motorcycles recorded the most significant performance, with a growth of 13.51% and 20,667 vehicles registered. The performance of scooters was also good, marking an increase of 3.42% equal to 23,143 registered vehicles. For the third consecutive month, however, the decline in mopeds continues, losing a fifth of their market (-21.61) and putting only 1,841 units on the road.
The first five months of 2024
The motorized two-wheeler market is in enviable health. The first five months of the year show an increase of 7.81% over the same period of 2023 and 171,519 units sold. And it's always worth remembering that last year was a record year! The trend of motorbikes and scooters is similar, with the former growing by 8.9% and registering 78,976 vehicles and the latter recording an increase of 8.37% and 85,482 units registered. Mopeds, however, are still in trouble and, with four negative monthly payments out of five, put 7,061 units on the road, equal to a drop of 8.14%.
NB The following rankings are drawn up on the basis of the inclusion criteria in the lists made by individual manufacturers, or importers, who do not use the same method in dividing, or merging, models with the same acronym but which are available in different versions .
For example, in the rankings you will find the two BMW R1250GS divided between the standard model and the Adventure model, while the Benelli TRK 502, Moto Guzzi V7, Yamaha Tracer 9, or Honda Africa Twin 1100, add the sales of the two or more versions on sale.
Top 30 overall May 2024
May 2024 does not mark any particular upheavals in our absolute Top 30 with Honda SH 125 still firmly in command for scooters and Benelli TRK 702 for motorbikes. However, some more brilliant performances are worth mentioning, such as that of the Kymco Agility 125 which this month exceeds SH 150 and slips between the two Honda best-sellers and that of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 452, a motorcycle for which there was a fair amount of anticipation and which in the month of its arrival it registered 449 units. Among the new arrivals we also highlight that of the Voge Valico 900DSX, 319 plates for her.
