Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz
Russia-Ukraine war, Scholz: “Cohesive with Macron to support Kiev at a new level”
“Are we heading towards World War III?”. This is what the Western world is wondering after the meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and Chancellor Olaf Scholz. In fact, in a joint press conference, the head of the Elysée said that Kiev should be allowed to “neutralize” the military bases from which Russia launches its missiles into Ukrainian territory.
“We must allow them to neutralize the military positions from which the missiles are launched, the military positions from which Ukraine is attacked,” the French head of state said. “The highest priority is to support Ukraine in force. We promised that we will do this as long as necessary. Emmanuel and I agree that we must bring this support to a new level” echoed Scholz.
“We consult on this,” he added, specifying that the use of missiles supplied by the West to Ukraine must continue to take place “within the framework of international law”, which “has worked well so far”.
President Macron also tried to tone down his statements: “It should be possible to hit these places in a limited way. And I don't think this leads to an escalation. No other places or civilian targets will be hit.”
Middle East, Macron: “We will recognize the state of Palestine 'at the right time'”
Macron then addressed the topic of the war between Israel e Palestine: “France will recognize the Palestinian state 'at the right time' without giving in to 'emotion'. It is not a taboo for France – she added – we are totally ready to recognize the Palestinian state, but I believe that this recognition must come at the right time “
