Directly from LiveWire, HD's electrical division, the idea is to exploit braking systems that abandon traditional discs, calipers and hydraulic pumps, in favor of systems deriving from electric ones

Expected benefits apparently include lower costs, reduced vehicle weight and simplified manufacturing processes. In fact, other manufacturers such as BMW have also promoted the use of the strong braking capabilities of the regenerative systems of their electric vehicles. However, unlike a simple reduction in brake use, Harley-Davidson seems more motivated to completely eliminate traditional configurations in favor of this system but, for now only in the case of rear brakes.
The fact is that Harley-Davidson recently obtained the patent which provides for the use of this system in total replacement of a traditional mechanical braking system and although this will only relate to the rear wheel it opens up a scenario that few would have imagined. Traditional hydraulic brakes are expensive, they add weight which, due to the gyroscopic effect, worsens the reactivity and speed of folding of the motorcycle; so the Harley-Davidson system seems to be able to lead to a simplification which, at least at first glance, seems interesting, we'll see…
