According to the KNMI, local flooding is possible due to heavy (thunder) showers heading our way. “A lot of rain falls, especially in the second half of the afternoon, from around four o'clock,” says meteorologist Martijn Dorrestein of Buienradar.
Tunnels can flood
Code yellow has been declared everywhere in the country by the KNMI: “There is a chance of hail during the showers and a lot of precipitation can fall, especially in a short time. Most of the showers will disappear tomorrow morning.”
In the Netherlands we have to take into account more and more of these types of downpours. You can see why in the video below:
The weather institute reports that roads and tunnels may be flooded. Dorrestein certainly does not rule that out. “The groundwater level is already high. And of course everything in the cities is paved. This could certainly cause problems.”
The precipitation will clear tomorrow morning
The southern provinces in particular will be wetter than wet today. Rain also falls in the north, but less, says Dorrestein. “It is already raining in Limburg, and a lot of rain will also fall in Brabant and Zeeland.”
The rain will slowly decrease from tomorrow morning, Dorrestein knows. Code yellow applies in the southern provinces until 4:00 am, in the north precipitation must be taken into account until 8:00 am.
