The Azzurre write history in Abu Dhabi. Italy is already first in the medal list
Abu Dhabi, 19 May 2024 – A splendid gold medal arrives for Odette Giuffrida at the Judo World Championships. The 2024 world champion gets on the tatami with grit and determination and takes her first world title. She fights in the final against the Uzbek Diyora Keldiyorova, in the 52 kg and writes history. Italy returns to the first step of the podium since 1991. When in Barcelona the Azzurre won in the doubles with Alessandra Giungi and Emanuela Pierantozzi.
A fantastic silver medal went to Assunta Scutto. The Azzurra was defeated in the final, after a perfect and heartfelt match on the Abu Dhabi tatami, by the Mongolian Baasankhuu Bavuudorj in the 48 kg.
For her it is the third consecutive title at the World Championships.
It's an extraordinary first day for Italy. Already at the top of the Competition Medal Table.
