There are two ways to bring a video game to the small screen: create something new that immerses you fully in its universe or recreate what happens during the games without having to touch a controller. From there, the rest depends on a good team and their efforts to offer fidelity to the original work. That's why The Last of Us series is so damn good, and what we've already seen from its long-awaited second season follows the same direction.
As scheduled, filming of the series continues in Vancouver. An unexpected detour to Canada by Ellie? Let's say that it is a relatively common location when recording series and movies and, furthermore, it lends itself wonderfully to the atmosphere of The Last of Us Part 2, the video game that will be adapted (at least in part) in the new batch of episodes. Something that is evident in the videos and the latest photographs of the exteriors.
Just to put ourselves a little in context, and without going into too much detail, many of the relevant moments of The Last of us Parte 2 They take place in the city of Seattle. The first of the sets created for the occasion is located in Oceanic Plaza and, except for surprise, it seems to be the replica of this location, giving us a look at one of the franchises most related to the saga: Weston's pharmacies. An ideal place to imprison yourself when there are no infected, which is rare, it must be said.
Filming on this set occurred during the weekend of May 11, following the established schedule, scheduling the sequences that will be recorded for the area until May 14 along with the other major location: a huge area has been decorated for record Nanaimo and play the Capitol Hill game sectionwhich means the production team has to put a huge tank on the set and cover it with vegetation.
As can be seen from the Twitter account of The Last of Us News, despite not being the same city as in the video game, the cult of detail will continue to be one of the maxims of this production for television. And although small enlarged images of the protagonists of the corresponding scenes have already appeared, with Bella Ramsey and Isabela Merced characterized as Ellie and Dina respectively, we understand that despite not being spoilers, it is always better to reserve those responsible for the series to show to the protagonists.
Headed in the right direction, it is expected that the second season of The Last of Us will be released in 2025. Bella Ramsey will once again star in this emotional journey that she will undertake alongside Pedro Pascal as Joel and to which new protagonists and antagonists will be added in a story in which, like the first season, there are no heroes or villains limited by the usual clichés, but cruelly opposing points of view.
For its part, the future of the Naughty Dog video game saga is not entirely clear. We know that Neil Druckmann, who directed and wrote the sequel, had an interesting story in the pipeline and has been working on it since February 2024. However, we are not very clear in what direction this will take us or if it will come out on PS5. Development times are what they are.
I've been mulling over whether there's a concept (for a new The Last of Us) and, for years, I haven't been able to find that concept. But that has recently changed. I don't have a story, but I have that concept. So, to me, it's as exciting as The Last of Us and as exciting as The Last of Us II. It is its own thing and something that encompasses all three games.
So it feels like there's one more chapter to this story.
The franchise of The Last of Us has become a priority for PlayStation Studios and the great workhorse of its film and television series division. We expect that the second season will be even more daring and disconcerting than the first. From here, and from what we have seen, it can be said that the project of bringing the video game to television is in the best hands.
