All Helldivers 2 fans should start accepting that Arrowhead Game Studios is not in the business of doing collaborations. There were very strong rumors about Deep Rock Galactic and even Starship Troopers, but everything has come to nothing… at least for now. The studio has already made it clear that it does not want to be like Epic Games' Fortnite and the likes of Bungie's Destiny 2.
Needless to say, both its director, Johan Pilestedt, and the rest of the team did not close this window with one blow either. They left a gap small enough to have room for maneuver in the future and let us dream in the meantime.
Unlike console players (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S), those who play on PC are not subject to Arrowhead's wishes. The modding community has shown over the years that they can do things equal to and/or much better than the developers themselves. And the case of Helldivers 2 is no exception!
Long live democratic mods, damn it!
Arrowhead won't want to be like Fortnite, but that puts PC modders in the dark. Just take a look at the work of content creator and modder ToastedShoes (and company) to realize this reality. They've turned the helldivers into Buzz Lightyear, Master Chief, Star Lord, The Mandalorian, and Star Wars clone troopers Rex, Cody, and Hunter. And not only the helldivers, but also the enemies, ships, weapons and other elements of the game.
In case of Helldivers 2 x Star Wars It has been especially popular and is proof that the community wants Arrowhead to collaborate. Not bringing characters as is Fortnite, but adapting armor and weapons, for example. It's not something new. Destiny 2 It features a pistol that pays homage to the classic Halo weapon.
This is where the good stuff begins. ToastedShoes' work is just the tip of the iceberg of the modding community. Although it is the most popular due to its appearance in national and international media, just take a look at NexusMods and other websites to see that modders have not wasted their time.
There are mods for Helldivers 2, but in this case I want to show you how helldivers have conquered other universes. I'm going to stick to NexusMods so this post doesn't take forever. Palworld players and Blade and Sorcery You should know that you can play like a helldiver thanks to a couple of the most curious mods.
Democracy and Freedom in Gotham!
Batman Arkham Knight offers us the possibility of changing the appearance of Bruce Wayne's armor. There are plenty to choose from: Affleck's Batman, Bale and Pattinson, New 52, Flashpoint and even the classic suits. We can also change the appearance of the Batmobile, although it is more limited.
The modder WTFancy has had the fantastic idea of replacing one of Batman Arkham Knight's armors with the so-called B-01 Tactical Armor de Helldivers 2. In other words: Bruce Wayne uses the classic helldivers armor to impose justice and democracy on Gotham. And although it seems absurd, it looks extremely good… enough to tempt me to install the video game.
“I used the 1970s suit as a base and rewrote the armor to match the base body a bit because it originally looked a little chunky,” WTFancy explains in the description. “The suit also includes a custom cape from the game, but it originally had pleats. I tried to flatten it out so the cape deck would work properly and I think I did a decent job,” he concludes.
The armor is a little far from having the level of detail that the original or any of those available in the game has, but that is only when we look closely. Things change to more satisfactory levels during the gameplays. And it was precisely by seeing one that I discovered this wonder.
I was looking for strange things on Instagram when I came across a somewhat strange clip from Batman Arkham Knight. From one moment to the next, the music changed to the soundtrack of Helldivers 2 and I could see a helldiver crushing the robots that Enigma throws at us during his convoluted tests. You can watch it below for your enjoyment.
Pay special attention to the movement of the cape. I never thought I'd see Rocksteady's incredible physics and animation work applied to Helldivers 2's capes. In case you don't know, it took almost a year to design it in Batman Arkham Asylum. Almost nothing!
They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, so a video has to be worth thousands and millions of words. And since we want to be friends of synthesis, here you have a gameplay of the first minutes of Batman Arkham Knight while using the mod. Once again I want to point out that the armor looks very, very good.
And pay attention to the next two videos because it is gameplay focused on action. The author of the first title: “Arkham Knight BUT Batman Is A Helldiver”, which amounts to: Arkham Knight BUT Batman is a helldiver. The second shows us a gameplay of a simulation in which Bruce crushes several Gotham criminals with helldiver armor. Plus, it includes the voices of the original soldiers.
I admit that I am very tempted to install Batman Arkham Knight and put in a few more hours just to play with the armor of Helldivers 2. In short: Arrowhead Game Studios will not want to be like Fortnite and perhaps it is a missed opportunity to collaborate with franchises that would suit it very well, but we will always have the modder community. Long live mods!
