MILAN – In Mickey Mouse issue 3572 – on newsstands, comic shops and on Panini.it from Wednesday 8 May, and also available at the Turin International Book Fair from 9 May – space for tennis, to celebrate the most followed and loved Italian sportsman of the moment: Jannik Sinner. The splendid cover of this issue is also dedicated to the young champion, who in his “paper version” is ready to meet Disney characters. We therefore start with Uncle Scrooge and the unusual coach, written by Roberto Gagnor and designed by Alessandro Perina (also author of the cover) for the colors of Ilaria Castagna. The protagonist of the story is Quacknik Spinner, a young ace from Calisota hired by the tycoon Scrooge McDuck to compete in the Duckburg Open, the first Big Sbam tournament. A truly unusual trainer, whose plans will be thwarted by his longtime enemy, Rockerduck. Will Quacknik Spinner manage to win the tournament, despite the thousand obstacles?
It is not the first time that athletes and sportspeople have been hosted in the pages of the weekly magazine: national icons, known and loved, just like Mickey Mouse. At the Book Fair – Saturday 11 May at 12pm – Davide Catenacci, Roberto Gagnor, Alessandro Perina and Alberto Infelise explore this theme in depth in the panel “Champions with beaks: from sports myth to Mickey Mouse comic book character”. A long tradition which, today, could only continue with Jannik Sinner. For the occasion, the tennis player spoke about his career and his passion for comics: «I love comics, I grew up with those published by Panini, and it's always exciting for me to read them… I still try to find the time to do it, between trips and matches.”
But the surprises don't end here: on Mickey Mouse 3572 the ace duo formed by Bruno Enna and Paolo Mottura pay homage to the most famous investigator of all time with the debut of a new, unmissable series and its extravagant and original protagonist, Goofy Holmes, actor of numerous adventures together with his right-hand man Topson. The story in two parts Goof Holmes in: a sauce in red is openly inspired by the famous literary figure of Sherlock Holmes and his “study in red”. «As a fan of the character, I was surprised to discover that a project dedicated to his most famous adventures has never been created on Mickey Mouse. Or rather, Sherlock Holmes has had various variations and appearances (for example, the entertaining Ser Lock series, published from 1975 to 1990) but no one until now has tackled it while remaining faithful to the original novels”, comments screenwriter Bruno Enna.
On the occasion of the Turin Book Fair, an unmissable variant cover signed by Paolo Mottura and embellished with a special “golden paint” effect in contrast with the ink stroke also arrives. «The editorial staff suggested the style of ancient nineteenth-century engravings and I created the drawing with a retro atmosphere in sepia in which there is Goofy Holmes on the roofs scanning the horizon and in the distance you can see the London skyline and a building whose window Mickey Mouse-Topson looks out of. The colors are warm, muffled”, explains the designer. The cover will then be available from Wednesday 15 May in comic shops and on Panini.it.
All the Panini Disney news presented at the Show and the events scheduled on the various opening days, in addition to the dedicated in-depth information on Mickey Mouse, are on the official Mickey Mouse social channels and online on Topolino.it. An appointment full of surprises, therefore, the one with Mickey Mouse 3572, with a “sporting” challenge waiting to be discovered and two unmissable covers.
