When you think of a war diary you quickly think of horror and suffering, but that of Isabel's grandfather is mainly about love. “What I like about this diary is that my great-grandfather wrote to his wife every day. He expressed his desire to return home. He only thought about her.” And that is exactly the common thread in the student's poem. “That love comes through everything and that that is precisely a part of freedom.”
