- Warning: Massive spoilers for Dead Space
The normal thing before jumping headlong into a video game is to inform yourself. Although it is not as common a practice as it should be, there are still many people who browse the internet in search of basic features, requirements, opinions and more. The depth of the investigation depends on each person's filter as to how much they want to know.
Although it may seem strange, many people prefer to look at the number of missions and their names before embarking on the adventure to get an idea of how long it may take them to complete the story. It is not usually a problem in video games that use ambiguous titles, but the case of Dead Space and Dead Space Remake was and is especially inadvisable.
And why is it such a bad idea to look at the quest list? Dead Space? The developers at Electronic Arts left a huge spoiler in this list… at least if you read it in English. There is no risk when doing it in Spanish. We leave you the list below with the spoiler marked in bold.
- Chapter 1: New Arrivals
- Chapter 2: IIntensive Care
- Chapter 3: COurse Correction
- Chapter 4: Obliteration Imminent
- Chapter 5: Lethal Devotion
- Chapter 6: Environmental Hazard
- Chapter 7: Into the Void
- Chapter 8: Search and Rescue
- Chapter 9: Dead on Arrival
- Chapter 10: End of Days
- Chapter 11: Alternate Solutions
- Chapter 12: Dead Space
The first letter of each mission title is part of a phrase that says “Nicole is Dead”, which translates as Nicole is Dead. Nicole Brennan is the couple of Isaac Clarke (protagonist) and rescuing her is the reason we endure all the hardships throughout the USG Ishimura.
Let's break the cake: Nicole commits suicide shortly before Isaac's arrival and what we see during the adventure are illusions created by the Red Marker. In other words: that almost everything we do in the first installment is meaningless because our objective has been dead for a long time. Now that you know this, I'm sure you'll think twice the next time you want to know the name of the missions in a game before playing it.
