Two years ago, Sebastian Vettel decided to retire from Formula 1 with the intention of spending more time with his family and dedicating more space to activities dear to him, especially on an environmental level. But the passion for motorsport and the world that he decided to leave always remains alive, not only thanks to the test completed with the Porsche Hypercar a few weeks ago, but also in the various events in which he drives the single-seaters that have written a piece of history of the Formula 1.
Among his collection there is also the 1993 MP4/8 with which Ayrton Senna completed his last year at McLaren before moving to Williams. That season ended with second place in the standings behind Prost, but that championship is also remembered for some successes that have rightfully entered the history of the sport, such as the victory at Donington, with that first magical first lap in the rain thanks to which he recovered from fifth to first place.
Thirty years after the death of Ayrton Senna, there are various events with which Formula 1 wants to celebrate and remember its Champion, such as the event held today in Imola. On the occasion of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix which will be held in about two weeks, Sebastian Vettel will echo the Ford engine that powered the MP4/8 right on the track on the banks of the Santerno.

The German, who during his career was able to win four world titles, will in fact be present in Imola to pay homage to the late Brazilian driver, one of the most important legends and icons of Formula 1. Vettel will take to the track with the Senna's last McLaren on Sunday 19 May, the day of the Grand Prix, around 12.30 for about twenty minutes, after the conclusion of the Porsche Supercup race.
“Ayrton Senna was not only a driver I greatly appreciated for being one of the best drivers racing has ever seen, but also a man of great compassion. It has been 30 years since his accident and I would like to pay tribute to Ayrton. I will be in Imola for the Grand Prix to drive his car, the McLaren MP4/8. I hope to see you on Sunday 19 May,” Vettel explained in a message on social media.
It won't be Vettel's first time driving the MP4/8, given that he had already driven it last year at Goodwood, among other things with a special helmet which combined his classic colors of the German flag with the Brazilian ones, the the same ones that characterized Senna's career with that iconic yellow background accompanied by green and blue.
