Mathys Tel is without a doubt one of the greatest talents in top European football and is also seen as a great promise for the future at FC Bayern. In the away game against Union Berlin's Eisernen, Tel will play his 65th competitive game for FC Bayern Munich, in which he has already recorded 18 scorer points (14 goals and 4 assists). However, Tel hasn't really been in the starting line-up on a regular basis and has, if at all, played the role of the joker. However, the 18-year-old Frenchman started against Union Berlin. A good omen for the people of Munich? Bayern's previous record with Tel in the starting line-up allows little conclusions to be drawn.
Bayern started six competitive games this season (Bundesliga, DFB Cup, Champions League and DFL Supercup) with Mathys Tel in the starting line-up. Only two Bayern victories resulted. The 2-0 win against 1. FC Köln on the last Bundesliga matchday and in the first round of the DFB Cup against Preußen Münster. With Tel in the starting line-up, Bayern failed to emerge victorious four times and they even lost twice. In the Supercup against RB Leipzig (0:3) and in the second cup round in Saarbrücken (1:2). Matchday of the Bundesliga against SC Freiburg (2:2) and on matchday 5 of the Champions League preliminary round against FC Copenhagen (0:0) there was a division of points. Tel scored once against Freiburg and Münster.
As a joker, however, things have gone much better for Tel and Bayern so far. Here the Frenchman was directly involved in a total of ten Munich goals when he came off the bench. Tel scored six goals when he came on as a substitute (4x Bundesliga and 2x Champions League). Whenever Tel scored after being substituted, FC Bayern ended up winning the game.
