This April 25, the first Buena Onda Talks (BOT) talk of 2024 will be held, an initiative that provides scholarships to young people living in Chile to learn how to program. In this first call of the year, BOT's focus is to link programming with gaming and, through the promise of “making your first video game in 45 days”, it seeks to attract new talents to this industry.
The scholarships can be used by young beginners who have no prior knowledge of programming as well as by those who have advanced knowledge and need to reach a professional level. And to add value to this benefit, more specialized courses and resources will be delivered through the Discord server that will cover various aspects of video game development.
“We are committed to promoting programming using video games as part of this engine of change, so we encourage interested young people to attend a dynamic 30-minute online talk. There they will understand how they can access a free scholarship to study online and how to be part of a community that grows and strengthens,” said Leo Meyer, Director of the “Buena Onda Talks” (BOT) program.
Application and Registration
To apply, it is key that you live in Chile and are between 16 and 22 years old. By entering the masinfo.cl site, you just have to follow the instructions on the site and then attend an online talk that will take place at 6:30 p.m. on April 25. If you are selected, the first thing you will have to do is follow a 45-day course where they will give you all the tools to create your video game. Once that is done, you will be able to opt for one of the 200 programming scholarships available at the prestigious Mexican academy Dev.f, and once you finish this, students will be able to access a work internship in some of the main technology companies in Latin America.
You can also take this experience to your school
“We call on high schools, schools and colleges to send this information to their middle school students as well as to private and public organizations committed to quality primary education so that no one is left without this opportunity. And if necessary, we will enable another 200 scholarships,” says BOT Scouting Leader, Evadil Ayala.
The beneficiaries will be announced on May 3 and from that moment on, access to the first three online courses will be enabled, in addition to the option of accessing the support channels via WhatsApp and Discord so that the BOT team can clarify any questions or requirement during your study process.
The invitation is also for teachers who wish to bring this experience to their educational community, who can contact them through the organization's website.
