Fiumicino, 17 April 2024 – A moment of dialogue and comparisonthe conference reserved for students of the IIS Paolo Baffi of Fregene, during which structured topics such as legality, respect, the importance of managing a city, the profound meaning of politics and civic education were addressed. The mayor attended the meeting Mario Baccinithe president of the City Council, Roberto Severini and the Councilor for Social Policies, Monica Picca.
“The Municipality of Fiumicino was born 32 years ago but has its roots in the imperial culture of the ports of Claudius and Trajan on a territory that extends from the coast to the countryside, inspired by great vocations, such as fishing, agriculture, tourism, food and wine. – highlighted the mayor, Mario Baccini during his speech to the students, to describe the potential and specificities that belong to the territory. – Such a thriving and active city, in which, moreover, the population grows by around 1500 units a year , which goes against the national trend and which is projected to reach 90 thousand units in the next few years, needs to outline a perspective. It is therefore central that true human capital, represented by young people, takes on a role of responsibility towards the future; that of living in a city with the awareness of being an integral part of it and not just people to be administered”. The First Citizen underlined when speaking about the Evening “nightlife” that animates our coastespecially during the summer season, the importance of the young people of Fiumicino sharing a message with their peers based on civic sense and respect focusing on the concept that you can and should have fun but not at the expense of other people, things or their own health through the abuse of alcohol, drugs, vandalism or violence.
“The President of the city council is the one who governs the political processes within the council chamber”, thus councilor Monica Picca, present at the event, introduced the president, Roberto Severini. “Let's reclaim that noble value that is politics because too often it has been associated with dark and unclear situations, but even more often it has represented the tool that has allowed and allows us to resolve the problems and critical issues of territories and people”.
“Politics is at the center of the discussions of each of us, in families and in society; politics is you when you speak and exchange opinions or the professors in the act of teaching. Everything is politics – declared President Roberto Severini -. I also have responsibility for the council chamber, a place open to citizens both to address political and cultural debates or for aggregation. – he continued -. I will interface with your teachers and school managers to organize meetings with the various institutional figures inside the municipal house. and to know, more closely, the mechanisms of the municipal administration and what functions are carried out by the various members that compose it. It's very important bring young people closer to politics and give them confidence in institutions and in those who represent them and I hope that in the future some of them will want to become protagonists and administer this city”, concluded the Prime Minister Roberto Severini.
“The topics we will discuss are topics that we then investigate as an institution in order to create projects and solutions useful to the community. – added the councilor for Social Policies, Monica Picca -. Doing politics means administering and the politician is the one who understands the needs and critical issues of citizens and the territory and takes the necessary actions to resolve them. Politics is a mission dedicated to the common good and I hope that, also thanks to this meeting, the gap between you young people and politics will become increasingly shorter”, concluded the councilor who thanked the head teacher of the Institute and all the professors for organizing the event. The police forces were also present to represent legality and the fundamental role they play in guaranteeing the safety of cities.
