Liverpool unexpectedly lost to Atalanta in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals, Friday (12/4) early morning WIB. Jurgen Klopp admitted he was disappointed and questioned the performance of his players.
“This match really went very badly. Oh my God… I just want to congratulate Atalanta here,” said Klopp, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
“We lost the plot and failed to carry out the previously determined strategy. There is not a single positive thing that I can say. We were everywhere, but also not everywhere,” he added.
The Reds actually controlled the game and were far ahead in terms of ball possession, namely 71 percent compared to 29 percent, but in the end Atalanta won 3-0 thanks to a goal from Mario Pasalic and two goals from Gianluca Scamacca.
Defeat to Atalanta is certainly a big loss for Mo Salah et al. A tough task awaits them in the second leg, Liverpool must win at least 4-0 to qualify for the semifinals.
The second leg match between Atalanta vs Liverpool will be held at Gewiss Stadium on Friday, April 19.
