Terracina, 10 April 2024 – Shortly after 12 pm it arrived at the Operations Room of the Maritime District Office – Coast Guard of Terracina a report regarding the presence of a man in the water in a state of confusion in front of the easternmost stretch of Lungomare Circe.
Evaluate the current weather conditions, characterized by strong south-westerly winds and breaking waves in the area closest to the beachland patrols were sent to the site as well as the GCB117 boat, a fast vessel particularly useful for carrying out interventions in contexts characterized by shallow water and which require the ability to maneuver quickly.
The vessel, having arrived on site, approached the man with no small difficulty due to the breakers that characterize the Terracina coast with these weather and sea conditions: the crew ascertained the conditions of the unfortunate man and invited him to desist from remaining in water, since there was a real risk that he would no longer be able to reach the shoreline due to the strong undertow. The temperature of the water in this phase of early spring, combined with the sensation of greater cooling of the body parts exposed to the wind (wind chill), also entailed the risk that the assisted person could
he soon fell into a condition of hypothermia, abandoning himself to the surf.
The joint intervention by sea and by land, where local police patrols were also operating,
finally achieved the objective of interrupting the dangerous condition in which man found himself,
who was then entrusted to the care of the 118 ambulance, which also promptly
intervened.
