Brothers Tarn and Zach Adams brought their long-acclaimed Free2Play game, Dwarf Fortress, to the Steam platform in December 2022 in the form of a premium version, catapulting them into the category of millionaires a couple of years later. This is thanks to the fact that the game sold 800,000 copies, as reported to PC Gamer at the recent GDC. And thanks to this commercial success, one of the brothers was able to fulfill his dream: buy a Honda Civic.
For those who don't know it, we tell you that Dwarf Fortress is a PC game developed by Bay 12 Games with Kitfox Games as editor, set in a fantasy universe that combines roguelike and city-building elements. As they point out on their wiki, Dwarf Fortress is mainly recognized for its high level of complexity and difficulty. Its name is inspired by the game's focus on building, managing, and exploring dwarven fortresses. Development of Dwarf Fortress began in October 2002, and the first public version was released in August 2006.

After 20 years of development, the brothers launched their game on Steam with a price of around $30 dollars, selling more than 300,000 copies in just one week, recently reaching more than 800,000 and being on the wish lists of more than a million players. Something that has clearly made these brothers become millionaires, money that they have not wasted, according to one of them.

Zach Adams revealed to PC Gamer that he purchased a new house with his wife, a plan he had already had since 2022 due to the growth of his family. In addition, he allowed himself the luxury of buying a new car, although instead of opting for a Lamborghini or a Porsche, he decided to purchase another, more economical car.
“I decided to buy a Honda Civic, because I always wanted one,” he said.
Car that has different values according to the brand's official site, the cheapest being the 2024 Civic Sedan, with a price of $23,950, although the model of the Honda Civic that Adams acquired is not known. An austere purchase, but above all a demonstration that despite success, some independent developers remain humble and grounded.
Community raises $50,000 to finance new STEAM strategy game
Another indie game also recently attracted attention among fans of the strategy genre, who ran to help its studio, which started a Kickstarter campaign to seek financing. And I say they ran, because in just eight hours, they reached the imposed goal of $25,000 dollars and also almost doubled that figure, reaching close to $50,000 dollars.
This is the game from the Chimera Entertainment studio called Songs of Silence, who have taken the opportunity to release a demo of this game. In the description of their crowdfunding campaign, they indicate: “Beyond simple financing, this campaign seeks to build a community of passionate fans who share our vision of an immersive and engaging game.”
“Your contribution not only helps us create a better and more beautiful game, but also allows us to actively involve you, our fans, in the development process,” they say.
