L'Aquila, 6 April 2024 – “On 6 April 2009, L'Aquila and the 56 villages of the crater were shocked by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake: hundreds were killed, thousands were injured and displaced.. The heart of Italy was broken. I have memories full of emotion: I was there, from the first hours. I was able to see first-hand the extraordinary resilience of the population and the great generosity of the rescuers, the police forces and the volunteers who came from all over the country.” This is what we read in a post on Facebook by the president of the Lazio Region, Francesco Rocca.
“Together with fellow Presidents of the Regions of Central Italy and the Extraordinary Commissioner Guido Castelliwe are working to ensure that there are certain reconstruction times in every territory hit by a seismic event, as also happened in our Amatrice. We owe it to our communities affected that night. We owe it to those who didn't make it. We owe it to future generations of those lands” concludes Rocca.
