Rome, 3 April 2024 – The Jubilee construction site for the redevelopment of the square in front of the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano. The works carried out by the Csimu Department of Rome Capital have a total amount of 15 million euros for the complete redevelopment of the area. The work that has just started concerns the first construction phase in which the work areas are cordoned off. The works on the square concernor a surface area of approximately 10 thousand square metres and involve the renovation of the flooring with particular attention to the maintenance of public greenery and environmental sustainability. The arrangement of the square includes flowerbeds equipped with an automatic watering system and level fountains to counteract heat islands. All the works carried out on the square, starting from the construction site, they have no repercussions on city traffic, taking place in a pedestrian area.
“From today the construction site of San Giovanni in Laterano begins to take shape – comments the councilor for Public Works Ornella Segnalini -. The Csimu Department which coordinates the work has in fact begun the first phase concerns the construction works. At the end of this first step, the work will begin and will be completed for the Holy Year. Another large Jubilee construction site has started – concludes Segnalini – to redesign an urban space and make the most of its function as a place of faith and meeting”.
