Latina, March 29, 2024 – The Municipality of Latina has tightened a new “Pact for urban security” with the Prefecture of Latina. The agreement signed yesterday evening by the mayor Matilde Celentano and the prefect Maurizio Falco follows a council resolution aimed at declaring urban safety a priority topic for the municipal administration which intends to activate and improve all those measures aimed at strengthening the prevention and fight against forms of illegality that occur in the area.
“The new 'Pact for urban safety – explained Mayor Celentano – cwill allow the Municipality to make requests for funding for video surveillance systems. A decree from the Ministry of the Interior of December 2023 establishes that only municipalities that have signed security agreements with the competent Prefectures can submit a request for financing”.
“Thanks to the request of the prefect Falco – continued the first citizen – we signed the agreement with the aim of implementing the video surveillance system present in the municipal area of Latina, with the aim of protecting urban decorum, preventing and combating the phenomena of widespread illegality and crime”.
With the signed pact, the Municipality of Latina intends to strengthen actions to prevent and combat forms of illegalityin the Pub area, along the Marina di Latina, in the Borghi, in the area of the Q4 district, near the bus lines and in the Nicolosi district. The Prefecture and the Municipality will adopt joint strategies aimed at improving citizens' perception of safety and combating all forms of illegality, encouraging the coordinated use of state police forces and local police.
“The institutional collaboration implemented with the Prefecture and with the police forces, widely tested in these nine months as mayor, is fundamental for address thorny issues relating to urban security problems. The pact made today is the culmination of the good practices carried out so far”, concluded Mayor Celentano.
Meanwhile, remaining on the topic of urban security, the municipal administration has approved another council resolution which concerns the feasibility project, to be presented to the Ministry of the Interior, to implement the video surveillance system on the Marina and in via Monfalcone , costing 65 thousand euros. With the same resolution, the municipal administration committed to providing budget funds necessary for the maintenance of the systems for at least five years from the end of the installations.
